Interventional Cardiology

The University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine offers a one-year Interventional Cardiology fellowship, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The program trains one fellow per year. Fellows will graduate with the ability to perform complex PCI with limited peer back up, typical to rural US practice. Fellows will experience significant, complex caseloads and graduate with the ability to practice in any setting

Mission

Produce interventional cardiologists with comprehensive skill set for independent practice, being able to function well from day one of practice with limited peer back up.

Aims

  • Fellows will graduate with the ability to perform complex PCI with limited peer backup, typical to rural US practice.
  • Fellows will experience significant, complex caseloads and graduate with the ability to practice in any setting.

Program Curriculum

Fellows have access to all Food and Drug Administration-approved devices in our cath labs, many of which are bi-plane, and are expected to participate in and perform more than 1,000 procedures, including angioplasty and structural heart disease procedures, during the year of training.
